Our
Curriculum
PUSH’s
primary objective is to provide appropriate early learning opportunities
to all children with and without disabilities. For children with special
needs, learning can be optimized through early intervention, which
focuses on the special needs of each child and family.
Children who participate in a group model
are provided with activities based on a developmental curriculum that
targets all areas of development. Activities focus on the development
of “the whole child”, with a strong emphasis on the social-emotional
development of children. Research concludes that children who are aware
of emotions in themselves and others, who work cooperatively with their
peers, who use adults and classmates as resources, and who have friends
are more likely to succeed academically and lead fulfilling lives.
The classroom is designed to encourage active, hands-on learning
experience instead of passive stimulation. The lessons given within this
prepared environment are developmentally appropriate, building on the
child’s existing skills and unique learning needs, which facilitate
further skill development. Since no one parent, teacher, or therapist
can provide all the necessary opportunities for each child, a
trans-disciplinary team approach has been adopted to optimize the
learning capabilities for each student.
PUSH teaching staff use the Creative
Curriculum, which targets all areas of development, to form their lesson
plans.
Some of the areas of activity include practical life, sensorial, math,
language, science, art, and music. The types of materials available
within the prepared environment have a substantial influence on how and
what the children learn. The environment supports the development of
trust, independence, and initiative.
